St Monica Medal, Patron Saint of Mothers & Married Women
Silver pewter medal of Saint Monica, the mother of Saint Augustine, with the words "Pray for us" on the reverse. The medal is made from nickle and lead free pewter and has been lightly oxidised to bring out the detail.
Saint Monica (AD 331 – 387), also known as Monica of Hippo, was an early Christian saint and the mother of Saint. Augustine of Hippo. She is honoured in the Catholic Church where she is remembered and venerated for her outstanding Christian virtues, particularly the suffering against the adultery of her husband, and a prayerful life dedicated to the reformation of her son. St Augustine who wrote extensively of her pious acts and life with her in his "Confessions". Popular Christian legends recall Saint Monica wept every night for her son Augustine.
