St Matthew the Apostle Medal
Oval silver pewter medal of Saint Matthew the Apostle, made in Italy.
Matthew the Apostle (also known as Saint Matthew and as Levi) was one of the 12 apostles of Jesus & one of the 4 Evangelists. Little is known about him except that he was the son of Alpheus, and he was likely born in Galilee. He worked as a tax collector, which was a hated profession during the time of Christ.
According to the Gospel, Matthew was collecting taxes in Capernaum when Christ came to him and asked, "Follow me." With this simple call, Matthew became a disciple of Christ. The New Testament records that as a disciple, he followed Jesus and was one of the witnesses of the Resurrection and the Ascension of Jesus.
Size: 2.5cm tall, including the top loop. Nickle and lead free pewter.
Comes with a silver steel split ring through the loop on top so it is ready to use. There are good quality stainless steel chains here if you are thinking of wearing this medal as a pendant.
