St Lawrence Medal, Patron of Chefs & Comedians
Medal of Saint Lawrence in nickle and lead free pewter which has been lightly oxidised to bring out the detail, made in Italy.
St Lawrence was one of the deacons of the early Roman Church, and became a victim of the persecution of Valerian in 258. Tradition holds that Lawrence was burned or "grilled" to death, hence his association with the gridiron which is often shown in images of him. Tradition also says that Lawrence, despite his torment, joked about their cooking him enough to eat while he was burning on the gridiron, hence his patronage of cooks, chefs and comedians, stating something along the lines of "turn me over ... I'm done on this side".
Size: 2.5cm tall including the top loop. This medal comes with a silver steel split-ring through the top loop so it is ready for use.
Looking for a suitable chain to wear this medal as a pendant? I have good quality stainless steel neck chains here which will not tarnish and are a good colour match for the medal.
