St Gerard Majella, Patron of Mothers, Pregnancy
Saint Gerard Majella oval medal, made in nickle and lead free pewter. It has been lightly oxidised to show the detail.
Saint Gerard Majella was the son of a tailor. His father died when Gerard was just 12, leaving the family very poor. Gerard tried to join the Capuchins, but his frail health prevented it. However he was later accepted as a Redemptorist lay brother serving his Order as sacristan, gardener, porter, infirmarian, and tailor. When falsely accused by a pregnant woman of being the father of her child, he retreated to silence - she later said that she lied and that he was not the father. This is what made him the patron of all of pregnancy and motherhood since he never spoke up to save his own reputation and shame the woman.
When he died a note on the door of his cell was found that said: "Here the will of God is done, as God wills, and as long as God wills." St. Gerard is the patron saint of mothers, pregnant women, the pro-life movement, and unborn children.
Size: 2.5cm tall including loop on top. It comes with silver steel split-ring through the top loop so it is ready for use.
If you are looking for a chain to wear this medal as a necklace, I have quality stainless steel chains which are a good colour match for the antiqued silver finish of this medal.
