St Elizabeth of Hungary Medal
Oval pewter medal made in Italy showing Saint Elizabeth of Hungary on the front and the words "Pray For Us" on the reverse.
St Elizabeth of Hungary (1207-1231) was a princess of the Kingdom of Hungary and is a greatly venerated saint recognised in the Catholic, Anglican & Lutheran Churches. She is recognised as a symbol of Christian charity having devoted her life to helping the poor and needy, and was quickly canonised after her death at the age of just 24.
Elizabeth is best known for her miracle of the roses. While taking bread to the poor in secret, she met her husband Ludwig who asked her to reveal what was hidden under her cloak. Her cloak fell open & a vision of white & red roses could be seen, which proved to Ludwig that God's protecting hand was at work. Hers is the first of many miracles that associate Christian saints with roses. She is the patron saint of hospitals, nurses, bakers, brides, exiles, dying children, exiles, homeless people, lace-makers, widows and the Third Order of St Francis.
Size: 2.5cm (1 inch) including the top loop. Comes with a split ring through the loop on top so it is ready for use. Nickle and lead free pewter.
