St Barbara Chaplet "Niner", Patron of Miners, Tunnellers, Explosives
Saint Barbara is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers and she continues to be a popular saint in modern times, perhaps best known as the patron saint of armourers, artillerymen, military engineers, miners and others who work with explosives because of her old legend's association with lightning, and is also patron saint of mathematicians.
This chaplet of St Barbara is made in the niner layout, which has 9 prayer beads in 3 groups of 3. This is one of the earliest forms of chaplets, and is said with easily remembered prayer - the Hail Mary, Our Father and Glory Be - as well as a personal petition.
The beads are vivid cobalt blue 10mm Czech crystal, each linked separately with silver rosary wire. There is a small electric blue bead between each set, a marker so you can feel when to change to the next set of prayers, or pause for reflection.
At one end is a medal of Saint Barbara, and at the other end is a simple crucifix with a blue enamel background. Blue is the colour associated with St Barbara.
Length: 35cm / 13.75 inches;
Crucifix: 3.75cm / 1.5 inches tall;
Medal: 2.5cm / 1 inch tall.
The chaplet comes attractively packaged along with a prayer card.
