NZ Paua Shell Rosary, Sacred Heart Center & St James Cross
Paua shell rosaries are a unique design for traditional Catholic prayer beads, and this beautiful rosary has been made by me, Deborah, right here in New Zealand where the shell is found. Paua is only found in the cold southern waters of our Pacific country.
The Hail Mary beads are flat diamond-shaped, each 10mm across. The Our Father beads are 14mm diamonds finished with tiny end caps & small iridescent blue crystals. All the beads are double-sided and linked into the rosary with silver rosary wire, which means the rosary flows smoothly in your hands.
The center medal is the Sacred Heart with a small image of Our Lady of Sorrows on the back. The rosary is completed with a St James Cross in silver pewter. This style of cross is pointed at the base like the shape of a sword, a reference to how St James the Apostle died – decapitation by sword. Certainly it could represent wielding the sword in defense of Christianity as well.
Length when hanging: 63cm / 24.75 inches;
Center medal: 2cm;
Crucifix: 4cm /1.6 inches tall.
This rosary is lightweight and well-made for years of prayer. It would make a thoughtful gift, and comes in a handmade (by me) lined cotton rosary pouch to present it in.
