Memento Mori Niner Chaplet, Jasper Beads & Nails Cross
This is a larger-sized set of small rosary beads, known as a "niner" because it has 3 groups of 3 prayers said while using it. This niner incorporates memento mori skulls and a gemstone touchstone in a style dating back to Middle Ages' men's paternosters.
In past times it was common to include symbols to remind the user that life is short, which became known as "memento mori". That translates as "remember your death" or "remember you are mortal", and is intended to remind people to make the most of life. You can read about memento mori here.
This little rosary is made with 10mm jasper gemstone beads for the 3 groups, separated with smaller jasper & glass trade beads and the marble memento mori. At one end is a silver pewter "nails" crucifix, a powerful representation of the nails used in the crucifixion.
At the other end of the strand is a solid Red Creek jasper touchstone, a symbol of protection. Jasper is a hard & durable natural stone that is said to embody the qualities of strength & protection. In the middle ages, it was common to include such symbols in rosaries and paternosters, as well as personal items such as special jewels or reminders of events.
Length: 35cm / 13.75 inches;
Crucifix: 5cm / 2 inches;
Touchstone: 2.5cm / 1 inch across.
This unique niner rosary comes in a handmade pouch to keep it in, along with a card explaining the symbols used in it, and will be attractively packaged. Ideal for personal prayerful use, it would make a thoughtful gift.
