Large Memento Mori Rosary, Red Coral Beads, Our Lady of Tenderness Center
This large rosary is perfect for prayer, for a presentation, adding to a rosary collection, or for display in your home. Inspired by rosary designs from the Renaissance period in Europe, this rosary is made with red coral beads which were a popular choice in past times.
The individual prayer beads are 8mm round coral beads, each bead linked with silver rosary wire. Creating rosaries with linked beads seems to have started in the late 16th century, alongside rosaries threaded on string or cord.
The gaud beads between the decades (now usually called "pater" or "Our Father" beads) are marble carved skulls, known as Memento Mori. These were a common feature of Middle Ages rosaries and chaplets, intended for the living as a reminder of the brevity of life.
The center connector shows the Madonna and Child in an image often called Our Lady of Tenderness. The colored image has gold foil highlights, and is set in an ornate silver pewter frame with a textured back. The large crucifix is silver pewter with red enamel background that has a subtle shimmer.
Length when hanging: 70cm / 28 inches;
Center connector: 6.5cm / 2.4 inches;
Crucifix: 8cm / 3 inches tall.
This impressive rosary comes in a handmade (by me) renaissance style drawstring pouch to store it in, and is covered by my personal guarantee.
