Jerusalem Cross Pendant, 5cm Silver Pewter Medal
Large oxidized silver pewter pendant medal of the Jerusalem Cross, with the look of an ancient icon treasure. It has a solid loop on top for hanging - ideal for wearing as a large pendant, use in a rosary or paternoster or for historical reenactment.
This longstanding symbol of faith is recognized across the world. The Jerusalem Cross holds 5 crosses in one: a large cross dividing the emblem into quarters and 4 smaller ones in their own quadrant.
There are several interpretations of this cross; three generally accepted meanings are:
- It is a combination of the Old Testament teachings (the four Tau Crosses) and the New Testament teachings (the four Greek Crosses);
- It represents the four evangelists, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, with Christ in the center Christianity (central cross) broadcast by missionaries to the four corners of the world;
- That the 5 crosses represent the five wounds of Jesus on the cross (small crosses for the hands and feet, and the large central cross for the spear wound in His side.
