Greenstone Rosary (Nephrite Jade), Traditional Catholic Rosary
A full-size greenstone rosary in traditional Catholic styling with an antiqued brass center medal and crucifix. In New Zealand, nephrite jade is known as "greenstone" and the deep green color of this jade it is highly prized - to give or receive a gift of greenstone shows long-lasting respect and affection.
The combination of lustrous dark green and aged brass gives this rosary timeless appeal, like a treasure from the past, and it is suitable for men or women.
I've used 8mm round nephrite jade for the Hail Mary beads, each individually hand-linked with bronze rosary wire. This construction method gives the rosary very nice drape through the hands.
The Our Father beads are larger 10mm round greenstone. I've finished these beads with brass end caps and wire-wrapped them for extra strength where needed. This rosary will last for many years of prayer and become a family heirloom. It is covered by my lifetime guarantee.
The center medal and crucifix are cast in brass from vintage molds and then lightly oxidized to bring out the details. The medal at the center is the well-known Miraculous Medal of Our Lady (also known as the medal of the Immaculate Conception). The rosary begins and ends with a medium-size pierced filigree style crucifix with a smooth back. Both pieces are sealed to inhibit tarnishing.
Length from mid-back to end of crucifix: 53cm / 21 inches
Center medal: 2cm / 0.8 inch
Crucifix: 4cm / 1.6 inches
This is a full-size rosary with nice weight which feels cool and smooth in the hands, and is suitable for men or women. It comes in a handmade (by me) lined cotton rosary pouch to keep it in.
