First Communion Pocket Rosary, Black Onyx
A short one-decade rosary is often called a pocket rosary, simply because of its size - easy to slip into a pocket, bag or keep on a bedside table. This handmade one is perfect as a gift for a First Communion, or as a Eucharist rosary.
For this pocket rosary I've used black onyx beads in a linear style, with the beads in a straight line. The 10 black onyx 8mm round Hail Mary beads are one decade of the full rosary. The Our Father bead is a faceted black onyx oval with white Swarovski crystal either side, which represent the light of the Holy Spirit.
At one end is a finger or thumb ring, which is used to hold the rosary securely over a thumb or finger. If you want to count decades as you pray the rosary, you move the ring along to the next finger to keep track.
At the other end is a traditional First Holy Communion cross, showing the bread, wine & communion chalice with Host. A small miraculous medal of Our Lady hangs from the ring to complete the design.
Length: 26cm / 10.25 inches;
Beads: 8mm round & 15mm oval black onyx beads:
Cross: 3.75cm / 1.5 inches tall.
A lovely wee rosary for personal use. Many younger people begin a lifetime practice of praying the rosary with a smaller set to start. It comes attractively packaged.
