Anglican Christian Rosary Prayer Beads, NZ Paua Abalone Shell
Paua shell rosaries are a unique design for traditional Anglican prayer beads. This beautiful rosary has been made by me right here in New Zealand where this variety of abalone shell is found.
The unique iridescent colours in paua is only found in shell from the cold southern waters of our country. This rosary is made with small 10mm oval paua shell beads for the weeks, and larger 15mm ovals for the cruciform beads between. All the beads are double-sided and are hand-linked with brass rosary wire.
The rosary begins and ends with a bronze Talavera cross, a style of folk art, with a raised pattern on the front and the same pattern engraved on the back.
The Anglican or Christian rosary is a celebration of Christ's life, with 33 beads representing the years He spent here on earth. A pamphlet comes with the rosary which explains a bit about its history and has some suggested ways to start using these prayer beads.
Length when hanging: 44cm;
Beads: 10mm & 15mm paua shell;
Cross: 2.5cm tall.
A lovely rosary for personal use, which is lightweight and flows smoothly through the fingers in use. It would make a thoughtful New Zealand themed gift too, and comes nicely packaged in a handmade (by me) lined rosary pouch to store it in.
