NZ Paua Rosary Prayer Beads, Handmade in New Zealand
This unique Catholic rosary is handmade by me using natural New Zealand paua shell beads. The vibrant colors in the paua shell used for these beads is only found in the cold waters of New Zealand which causes the shells to have iridescent purple, blue and pink interiors. Paua is a type of abalone, one that is native to New Zealand.
I've used coin-shaped paua beads for the Hail Marys in this rosary, each small bead is about 10mm across, and they are all separately linked with brass rosary wire. The Our Father beads are 12mm paua diamond-shaped beads which are finished with small Swarovski crystals that pick out the colors in the shell. These beads are then wire-wrapped for extra strength where needed most in the rosary - this is a rosary that will last for many years of prayer.
The bronze center connector is Our Lady of Grace, and the cross is known as a Radiant crucifix, which has a burst of radiant light behind the head of Christ, signifying His resurrection. The arms of the cross end in 3-pointed lily shapes, representing the Trinity. Added together, there are 12 points, which represent the 12 Apostles going out from the cross to carry the Good News to the world.
Length from center-back to end of crucifix: 65cm / 25.5 inches;
Crucifix: 5cm / 2 inches tall.
This is a full-size rosary which is lightweight and smooth in the hands for personal use, and which would be a good choice for a presentation or collector's gift. It comes in a handmade (by me) lined cotton pouch to keep it in and will be attractively wrapped.
